Boys in the Boat, Daniel James Brown, Historical fiction about the American crew team that triumphed in the so-called Nazi Olympics of 1936. This is another amazing slice of history and view into a hard life, what team work looks like, and what it takes to do the work directly in front of you.
More Than Conquerors, William Hendriksen, 1900-1982. Philosophical and theological book providing an analysis on the Book of Revelation. This is complex and dense, however a must read for anyone interested in perspectives on Revelation. This is not a book to be read lightly and best read in conjunction with a parallel reading of referenced passages.
Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior In Company and Conversation, George Washington, 1732-1799. Applewood Books. A small booklet of 110 truisms by George Washington. A great little booklet with lots of quotes and insights on being polite. Certainly written for a time period, but also causes one to stop and think “what was he saying?”
Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time, Dava Sobel. Tells the story of how longitude and time were determined and measured at sea. Makes a great gift and is an easy read, incredibly interesting.

It’s about a man who waged a war against his own worst impulses, including severe drug addiction.
